DVDRW Drive troubleshooting?

I can copy files to a writable disc in windows explorer, roxio, and windows media player. But when it's time to finalize the "session" or close the disc so that's is usable in another computer or device, the disc does not finalize. The session is not closed. I've waited an hour or more to see if I just needed to wait for the drive. But all I end up with is an unusable disc that wasn't finalized.
