When you give your son a haircut, do you make a complete mess?

I've learned through tears and whitewashed "i hate you's" to trim off the smallest amount you can at a time, show them the mirror constantly and wait 'til the end to do the ears because you will make them look like carnival sideshows if the ears get messed up. I use thinning shears for trims so if I botch it, it can be masked.
